World renowned arts production
company, Glyndebourne briefed
us to finalise the branding and
supporting materials for a new
opera targetted at young people.
The opera, written by Nicky
Singer re-tells the legend of King
Arthur as the story of Art, Lance
and Quin – members of a
teenage knife gang set in a
contemporary, urban setting.
The initial requirement was to
provide an illustrated cover
design to set the feel and
context of the opera
and then to apply that to
marketing materials.
We spent time carefully researching the main characters in the production and
presented an illustration which presented the main group of four together with a
background touching on the main themes and influences. These ranged from hope
and potential to magic, light, water and the inner-city environment.
The resulting work was used to extensively
brand the performances and applied to
the final programme and merchandising
including bookmarks, posters, T-shirts
and mugs. The opera is soon to be featured on BBC2 as part of a Gareth Malone documentary.
